A Little Birdie

I had to post this morning because I saw something happen on the way to work that really made me sad...

As we're driving with our windows closed, I saw a flutter to my right and a very young bird hit the window. I yelped, surprised. I said, "Wow! A bird!" It was gray and still somewhat fluffy with down. It just sat there stunned and perched on our window's casing. It must have still been pretty green with its flying skills. My husband said he was relieved that our window wasn't open, because it would've flown right in. Still disoriented from the impact, as my husband slowly pulled away with the light change, the bird struggled to take flight and fell off the car. In my side view mirror I saw it fall to the ground and the car behind us ran it over. I started to cry, it was so horrible to me, and we both said it out loud.

I feel so silly in a way, given of all the bigger things happening in the world, but one little bird has me a bit shaken this morning.

That would've upset me too, Elle.

You are a sensitive human being with a kind and empahthic nature; the rest of the humanity is enriched because you are. If everyone were capable of feeling grief over tragedies such as this the world would certainly be a much better place.

I'm upset just hearing about it Elle, I'd be shook up also. Having a senseless death just occur right next to you isn't something to just get over right away. Seems like most people don't notice things like this anymore, which is a tragedy. Your having the empathy to feel sadness for the birds' death is a good thing.

I can relate to the poor birds, we have a sun room off the back of our house, birds often fly right into the glass, some just get stunned and others well...

I suppose birds die every day, but this one was personal. I'd have cried too. poor little thing.

Elle, my heart always constricts a little bit when I see dead animals on the road. I am also known to flinch and duck when I see birds fly by or in front of my car windshield - as if that would help! One time a bird actually hit my windshield and I cried.
