Free-Motion Experiment

Had a big discussion with a guild member last month about covering my feed dogs on my little Singer. "Mine is 50 years old and I can do some free motion-type things on it so I know your 10-year old can handle it." Turns out she was right. I taped a business card down over my feed dogs and got to experimenting. Doesn't look like much, but I'm happy. There's the result.

Hi Elle
Thanks for the comments on my klimpt piece ... its done and will post pics on my site.... I have checked out your other site as well !! impressive!
Can I give you a hint on free motion... if you get some fabrics
with a pattern on it and just go around that ... to get the hang of the free motion .... and make sure you have a bit of batting and a backing fabric so you know how it will be when you do make an art quilt...

Welcome Art Quilt Newbie Elle...
I used duct tape (without a lot of forethought) over the feed dogs of
my '77 Kenmore and got great results. Then I had to clean the goo out of the machine...

Thanks for the advice!

I did try tape at first, but for some reason it just didn't work as well as the business card. I had so much fun moving the fabric around. I kind of even wrote my name. You can see the "Law" of it on the left side.

I could see two faces in your freemotion work!

I lost count of my quilts around 150, and keep going. I can't live without the release. My "day job" is writing romance novels, but my sewing machine is rarely packed away.

It's great to see that you are trying new things, teaching others, and have such a great future of quilting ahead of you!
